Two cities that are mentioned in the book of genesis of the Old Testament.
According to the Bible, Sodom and Gomora where neighbouring cities, and they were well known for their promiscuity and moral decadence.
After hearing Abraham's earnest prayer, God told Lot, how was living in Sodom at that time, he will only hold of the extinction if Lot found 10 righteous people.
But Lot was unable to find them. As soon as Lot escaped from Sodom, God rained fire from the sky and send the city to its doom.
History[]
Sodom and Gomorrah were two legendary biblical cities destroyed by God for their wickedness. Their story parallels the Genesis flood narrative in its theme of God's anger provoked by sin (see the Book of Genesis, chapter 19, verses 1-28). They are mentioned frequently in the prophets and the New Testament as symbols of human wickedness and divine retribution, and the Quran also contains a version of the story about the two cities. The legend of their destruction may have originated as an attempt to explain the remains of 3rd millennium Bronze Age cities in the region.
